Information
So, why have you come to this page?
If you have come because you have some righteous ideas on
what should and should not be published on a web site then by
all means email me with your comments, complaints, threats, or
whatever, my trash can is legendary for it's heroic capacity.
If you have come here out of curiosity, or because you want
to learn something then good, read on.
There is a lot of interesting stuff going on out there in
the shadier corners of the web. Unless you have already discovered
this for yourself you will doubtless be surprised by the extent
and range of such possibilities.
If you were the sort of kid who broke things apart to see
how they worked, and then improved them, or made something different
out of the bits then you will probably fit right in, make many
good friends and contacts, learn a lot and have a good deal of
fun besides.
The best way to learn is for yourself, so I am not going to
spell it out for you. A few minutes on the search engine of your
choice with a few well chosen words will give you more links
to follow up than you can shake a stick out. And therein lies
the problem. There are many good sites and resources out there,
but there are countless rip-off merchants and scam sites that
will waste your time and effort. So if you email me I will send
you a very small list of good places to start - (non in any way
affiliated with me nor illegal in themselves). From there you
will be able to make your own way and avoid most of the crap
infested quagmires that the hangers on of the scene spread about.
Once you have found a source of information you should follow
some basic common sense rules that will ensure you don't put
your foot in your mouth more often than is absolutely necessary.
First, lurk listen and learn on a good message board. Here
you will, within a week, pick up the vocabulary and etiquette
required to be able to post messages and requests yourself without
annoying people.
Second, when you do make contact, be polite and courteous.
Never use CAPITALS; that is shouting and hard on the eyes. Never
demand. Always be appreciative of the time others take on your
behalf.
Third, when you are able, give something back, help others.
Sure, there are assholes out there, just like there are Volvo
drivers out there. We have to live with them - just try not to
become one.
That's it. Mail me if you want to learn more. |
